Student Coaching & Counseling Services
Program Description
Student coaching and counseling programs are developed with defined outcomes for students. They include achievable student outcomes in each of the four student program domains: personal, social, educational and occupational. They are developmental in nature such that activities appropriate to student maturity levels are systematically presented.
MissionThe Guidance and Counseling Office aligns itself with the FIRST College mission in preparing students for the world of work through establishing strong linkages between academe and industry to support local and global manpower needs. Through the implementation of the guidance program, students are guided to understand themselves, the world of work, and become responsive to the needs of the society, and serve as models to others.
VisionThe Guidance and Counseling office is a fundamental part of FIRST College Student Services, providing comprehensive and holistic programs to students and other clientele within and outside the institution.
Program Objectives
- Provide a structure to help meet the guidance and counseling needs of all students
- Help students understand themselves and build meaningful relationships with others
- Help students learn how to handle their emotions and take responsibility for their actions
- Help students plan and achieve educational goals and explore personal career paths
- Provide developmental as well as preventative and reactive services
General Components of the Program
Coaching and Guidance CurriculumGuidance facilitator, Industry Coaches, and Student Affairs Officer work with classroom teachers and school administrators to assist them in integrating the coaching and guidance curriculum.
The assistance provided to teachers may take many forms, ranging from consultation to providing special lectures on Personality Development courses.
Counseling, Consultation, and CoordinationThese are professional services provided to address immediate situations and concerns of students requiring counseling, consultation, referral, or any related information. This component of the program is delivered by a qualified guidance counselor and/or mentor.
Life and Career PlanningThe life- and career-planning component helps students plan, monitor, and manage their learning and in their personal and career development. Students must acquire the knowledge, develop the skills, and formulate the attitudes needed to deal with personal, social, educational, and occupational/career issues.
Program Management and System SupportProgram Management and System Support consist of activities and strategies that assist in establishing, maintaining, and enhancing the entire Student Coaching and Guidance Counseling Services programs.
All activities and strategies within this component provide support to the school system in general. Most often, activities in this component are carried out by the guidance officer/s along with the Student Affairs Office, Career Services Department and the Industry Training team.
